Three-Word Summary: Hilarious wizard tribute
Everyone knows Harry Potter.
Over the past decade, these stories have cultivated an unbelievable pop cultural phenomenon not seen since the likes of Star Wars. And that comes with a heaping dose of spoofs, spin-offs, fan fiction and tribute musicals.
A Very Harry Potter Musical is one of the later; a musical performed by StarKid Productions out of the University of Michigan. The humorous take on the teenage wizard tale combines plot elements from several of the books with most of the well-known characters.
What’s great is that the musical is a commentary not only on the story, but also the stories’ effect on our culture. Its a shrewd and accurate representation on all things that our generation has come to know and love about the world of Hogwarts.
Despite several awesome performances, the show was stolen by one Draco Malfoy. The story’s antagonist is actually played by a girl and characterized as a coward who is afraid of using the toilet. Draco continually rolls around on the ground and boasts about being transferred to a school on Mars.
The first play is actually followed by a pair of sequels: A Very Potter Sequel and A Very Potter Senior Year. All three musicals are exceedingly well done, but none quite capture the same magic as the first performance.
This comedic play is a must-see for anyone who is a fan of the Harry Potter series or just laughter in general.
