Hector and the Search For Happiness

Hector and the Search For Happiness

Rating: 4/5

Three-Word Summary: Happiness of Pursuit

Simon Pegg is brilliant. He may be the most underrated actor working today.

The British everyman seems to make one wonderful film after the next without anyone seeming to notice.

Hector and the Search for Happiness is just one of such films. I had never heard of it before until it was suggested to me by my Netflix queue.

Being the Pegg fan that I am, I had to give the movie a try and I wasn’t disappointed. While it’s certainly not his best work, it’s still a highly enjoyable movie that helps probe at the universal search for happiness.

The plot isn’t the most original and the story line doesn’t always make sense. But do you know what else shares those same characteristics: life.

With some exceptions, the film and it’s characters were generally relatable. They carry on with their average lives while Hector, a distraught psychiatrist, goes on a worldwide journey to find the meaning of happiness.

Along the way, he keeps a journal that fills with words of wisdom that are as humorous as they are insightful.

Hector and the Search for Happiness isn’t the next blockbuster or Oscar award winner. But it is a touching film about real people with real issues.
