Video Game High School

Video-Game-High-SchoolRating: Four out of five stars

World-Famous Three-World Review: Insert Mario reference.

Editor’s Note: Categorizing Video Game High School as a television show is slightly misleading. VGHS has never aired on television. It’s an Internet program. But I don’t want to split hairs.

With the aging of the people raised during the dawn of video games, the games are beginning to have a greater impact on our society. Video Game High School is a shining example of this.

The show is about, get this, a high school where they play video games.

The premise may not blow you away. But for an Internet show, it has surprisingly good writing, acting and cinematography. In fact, it’s better than most shows on television. Why do I pay for cable?

The first two seasons already released by producer RocketJump follow newbie Brian D and his friends Ted, Ki and love interest Jenny Matrix. He battles and befriends resident hotshot/bully The Law. All while trying to make the school’s FPS (first person shooter) varsity team.

What I love is that the characters are actually placed into the video games while they are playing. So that Brian is shown running around a battlefield. And Ted is dropped into the car while racing. It gives a variety of settings and intensifies the action.

The main characters are quirky and relatable. Most of background characters go by their gamertags, such as Games Dean and Cold Turkey and Pie Puppy. It can’t all be gold.

VGHS is creative, fresh and funny. I wouldn’t have watched it otherwise.
