By Bob Goff
Rating: 5/5
Three-Word Summary: Inspirational, whimsical memoir
I heard Bob Goff speak at a work conference in California last year. And he was hands down one of the most powerful speakers I’ve ever heard.
(Incidentally, one of the other speakers was Adam Grant, who wrote another awesome book that I recently read called Give and Take.)
It wasn’t so much what he said as how he said it. He was happy, zesty and excited. He laughed and smiled and waved his hands around half-manically. In short, Bob Goff exuded the love that he writes about in his book, Love Does.
Goff has lived an incredible and interesting life: from sitting on a bench until he was permitted into law school, to taking his children to meet with heads of state.
He doesn’t poses the same limited world view as the rest of us. Instead he chooses to let the unlimited love of God carry him through unthinkable adventures. Most of us dream to live this way: free and uninhibited. We can learn from the lesson of Bob Goff that such a life is actually possible.
The title of the book nicely sums up the entire philosophy: love does.
First, the concept of love is paramount. It’s the attitude we need to choose and the motivation we need to follow. And second, it’s not love thinks, or love intends to, or love tries. The book is called love does because it’s all about the actions we can and should take when motivated by love.
Love Does is an incredible book written by an incredible man. More accurately, he’s a normal man who’s done incredible things because of incredible love by an incredible God. His memoirs chronicle these unconventional tales, but also serve to inspire others by demonstrating the heart behind each action.
