Three-Word Summary: Fancy smart pedometer

Wearables are the next step in the technology space. Smart watches are exploding and fitness devices are their close cousins.

Fitbit is perhaps the most recognizable brand in the fitness wearable arena. They’ve built an entire digital platform around a simple pedometer.

Sure, they’ve come out with more complex devices (with names like Blaze, Charge and Alta) that also feature a watch and mobile notifications. But at their core, Fitbits are fitness devices.

I myself have the most basic model: the Flex. The device itself only displays blinking dots to indicate how close I am to my daily step goal (10,000 steps). But the beauty of the thing is in it’s simplicity.

The Flex is lightweight and comfortable to wear. The battery life tends to be about a week long and it’s quick to charge. All of my pertinent step data is also tracked in Fitbit’s powerful mobile app.

It’s hard to compare the Fitbit to the Apple Watch and upcoming versions of the Pebble watch that comes equipped with health tracking. These devices are Swiss army gadgets; they do everything OK. But the Fitbit is a fitness tracker first and everything else second. So if you’re looking for a fancy pedometer, look no further.
